Diane started their business in 2017 out of necessity. They kept making things—more than they could give away—and eventually, after enough people told them to, they began to sell them.

But it wasn’t until 2021, when these small earrings emerged from a simple mistake, that something shifted.

What began as scrap material and a found pattern became a practice—repetitive, focused, and grounding. Without intending to, Diane had created a process that helped steady their mind and manage their Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)—something they had always searched for, but had never sustained for this long.

These pieces changed Diane’s relationship to their work. For four years, they became the backbone of their shop, carrying them through slow seasons and uncertain moments—not because they were large or complex, but because they were small, consistent, and made with intention.

It was never really about the earrings.

It was about what they allowed Diane to hold together.

Over time, Diane moved away from using found patterns. That phase was brief. They quickly began creating their own designs, using a licensed subscription through The Noun Project as a foundation, shaping the work into something more personal and intentional.

After the 2025 Christmas season, and into early 2026, Diane’s passion for this work began to fade. They learned to recognize that feeling. It usually means the work has done what it needed to do.

This project served its purpose—for four years, it held them steady.

Now, Diane has moved on to other forms, other ideas, other ways of making.

To everyone who ever purchased a pair of these earrings—thank you. Diane remembers making them—almost every pair. They remember the rhythm of it, and often, what was on their mind as each one came together.

Even in their final chapter, the work found its audience. During a brief run at Dungeons & Javas, the earrings became a quiet favorite.

Where Diane's art will be, nobody knows exactly which Art-o-mat® machines their art will be sold in—but you can find the machine locations on the Art-o-mat® website and plan your next adventure with a stop at an Art-o-mat® vending machine.

Each Art-o-mat® box will contain two pairs of randomly selected handmade earrings and a small signed and numbered certificate of authenticity for that designated series of the project. Diane will continue submitting to Release Into the Wild: Go Forth & Adorn Some Earlobes — A Handmade Earring Art Project until all earrings have been set free.
